Chamber Music Concert: Time, Silence and Sound
Fri 20.3.2026 at 18:30
Banquet Hall, Oulu City Hall
Duration approx. 1 h 45 min. (incl. intermission)
The internationally renowned Estonian Arvo Pärt contemplates profound ecclesiastical mysteries in his music, but many other composers as well have sought out eternal myths or reflected on traditional questions of human sorrow and suffering. The concert Time, Silence and Sound presents works that explore such deep waters and major philosophical questions from Finland and Estonia, performed by a selection of Finnish artists who rank among the very finest in the field of chamber music.
Chamber Music Concert: Secret Signs
Sat 21.3.2026 at 16:30
Banquet Hall, Oulu City Hall
Duration approx. 1 h (no intermission)
Cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and his wife, soprano Galina Vishnevskaya, asked Dmitri Shostakovich for a small joint vocal piece. The composer responded by creating a more extensive work than expected – a cycle of seven romances that has since established itself as a landmark of chamber music. Accordionist Niko Kumpuvaara, in turn, commissioned a new piece from his friend Marzi Nyman for the ensemble he wished for, combining his accordion with the sound of the Kamus Quartet. The second movement is dedicated to Eriikka Maalismaa – a beloved, warm-hearted and exceptionally charismatic musician.
Chamber Music Concert: Melodia Intima
Sun 22.3.2026 at 19:00
Banquet Hall, Oulu City Hall
Duration approx. 1 h (no intermission)
The album release concert Melodia Intima offers an overview of Leevi Madetoja’s chamber music, highlighting the composer’s intimate and lyrical expression. The concert features selected works from the world premiere recording released by Alba, which gathers together Madetoja’s compositions for violin, cello, and piano. In addition, the concert includes a surprising addition – a work for voice, performed by the Oulu Music Festival’s co-artistic director, soprano Mari Palo.
