Piip is a jazz quartet performing compositions inspired by nature. Laura Helander’s music delves into eco-anxiety, the grief caused by biodiversity loss, and a deep love for the natural world. The group’s Finnish jazz sound draws influences from Finnish prog, folk music, and pop.Their debut album, released in November 2024 by Eclipse Music, is a powerfully emotional work born from Helander’s climate anxiety—watching a world on fire while no one seems willing to put out the flames. The album received an excellent reception and has been named one of the best Finnish releases of 2024 by various media outlets, including Music Finland. In addition to saxophonist and composer Laura Helander, the band features vibraphonist/pianist Mikko Antila, bassist Tatu Back, and drummer Benjamin Nylund. Together, they bring Helander’s compositions to life with sensitivity and skill.
