Legendary pianist Seppo Kantonen returns to trio format with his new jazz trio together with Markku Ounaskari (drums) and Antti Lötjönen (bass). The new band has started rehearsing new material in 2023 and will tour Finland extensively in January-February 2024.
"The ensemble began rehearsals for my new compositions at the beginning of 2023. The band's expressive language is somewhat free but rooted in composition. In my opinion, I've only recently found a blend I find pleasing between consonance and dissonance. The mood of my pieces is supported by Markku Ounaskari's beautiful drum sound and Antti Lötjönen's rhythmically strong bass playing, both of whom are also sensitive and quick to react to new situations. Overall, the trio's pursuit of clear expression is, in my opinion, the most fitting description." - Seppo Kantonen
Kantonen has played on approx. 200 albums, and performed anything from jazz to rock and barock. He received the Yrjö award in 1985.
The concert is part of the Vapaat äänet -tour.
