Over the cold Baltic Sea from Finland’s neighbouring country Sweden, Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestra arrives to Oulu as part of its Bothnian Bay tour, which includes Umeå, Skellefteå and Luleå in Sweden, as well as the Oulu Music Festival 2023 concert. The opening concert of the Oulu Music Festival will feature a magnificent programe of music by Karin Rehnqvist, Kaija Saariaho, Jean Sibelius, Karol Szymanowski and Richard Wagner.
Due to Ville Matvejeff's sudden illness, the concert will be conducted by the Swedish conductor Johannes Gustavsson. Consequently, Kaija Saariaho's work Semafore will also be removed from the program today.
