Program
First half
Emilia Lajunen & Eero Grundström
Emilia Lajunen's second solo album, 'Vainaan perua: Satavuotinen sakka,' brings forth repertoire from the archives of Central Finnish fiddle players fused with Lajunen's unique musical language. The concert program is a combination of tunes retrieved from the archives of possessed fiddlers, merged with an electric musical language discovered through Emilia Lajunen’s and Eero Grundström's playing.
Lajunen is a professional folk musician known for her deep knowledge of tradition, distinctive arrangement style, and intense stage presence. In addition to the five-string violin, Lajunen plays the keyed fiddle and sings. Her repertoire combines Nordic fiddler traditions, archaic kantele and jouhikko tunes, ancient hymns, and ballads.
In 2023, the German label Nordic Notes released Lajunen's second solo album, 'Vainaan perua: Satavuotinen sakka.' The music emerged from Lajunen's artistic postgraduate studies, where she delved into the archive recordings of Central Finnish fiddlers, exploring concurrent music-making and dancing as a new art form.
Joining Lajunen on stage is Finnish musician and composer Eero Grundström. Grundström performs both as a soloist and with groups such as Sväng, Suistamon Sähkö, Celenka, Sähköpaimen, and in a duo with Maria Kalaniemi.
