KATERYNA ZIABLIUK (UKR)

Ukrainian pianist, singer, composer and journalist Kateryna Ziabliuk comes from Kyiv and has studied in Katowice, Krakow and Milan. She is now-a-days based in Poland/Italy. Raised in a family of artists and, surrounded by various directions of art, started playing the piano and singing at the age of six. She is one of the most promising figures of the Ukrainian music scene. In her work, she uses the language of modern jazz, but at the same time, does not hesitate to use elements of traditional Ukrainian music and explore the cultural heritage of her homeland.

Ziabliuk teki yhteistyötä balkanilaisen folk-yhtyeen Kriva Drinan kanssa, jossa hän soitti harmonikkaa, lauloi ja oli mukana luomassa sovituksia. Hän on esiintynyt myös muun muassa O.N.E-kvartetin jäsenten Kamila Drabekin ja Patrycja Wybranczykin kanssa, sekä konsertoinut lukuisia kertoja ympäri Eurooppaa. Venäjän hyökkäyksen edetessä Ukrainassa hän on tehostanut esiintymistään ja halunnut toimia Ukrainan ”kulttuurilähettiläänä” länsimaissa.

In addition, she is a co-founder and editor of the Meloport, where she publishes her texts devoted to improvised music, and former art director of Contra Jazz Club, which, despite its short existence, was an educational open stage for young Ukrainian musicians, where they could experiment with new projects, share her knowledge and network.

A series ticket is available for the Oulu Music Festival's Spring 2023 Jazz & Etno series. The series ticket is on sale until March 1, 2023, in limited amount. The series ticket includes all spring season 2023 OMJ Jazz & Etno concert series’ concerts.
